Assistant National Director Letter to American Airlines AMTs regarding AMFA's Extension Request |
|
March 25, 2021 -- AMFA has been granted a 7-day postponement to provide its response to the challenges to the proposed eligibility list of American Airlines by the TWU/IAM Association (“TWU/IAM”) which seeks to add roughly 2,000 ineligible individuals to the list of 13,213 proposed by American Airlines in an underhanded effort to dilute the significance of the cards you submitted calling for a union election. The National Mediation Board’s rules require substantive evidence be provided from both the TWU/IAM, which is scarce in its challenges, and from AMFA in its response to those challenges.

March 5, 2021 -- The TWU-IAM Association (“TWU/IAM”) has been widely claiming AMFA does not have enough cards to induce an election. The fact is, on December 4, 2020, American Airlines provided the NMB with a proposed eligibility list of 13,213 names and signatures. Subsequently, on December 23, 2020, the TWU/IAM, without invitation from the NMB, prematurely responded with challenges to the proposed eligibility list and began publicly claiming falsely that AMFA did not have sufficient cards to have an election.

March 1, 2021 -- On February 26, 2021, the National Mediation Board (NMB) Investigator Josie G.M. Bautista notified all parties of the next phase of investigation regarding NMB Case No. R-7557...The IAM/TWU promised you could vote on the Association and never delivered on that promise. AMFA is now working hard to get you that vote. We appreciate your support.

February 24, 2021 -- We wanted to give you an update following AMFA’s filing for a representation dispute on your behalf with the National Mediation Board (NMB) for the American Airlines (AA) Mechanic and Related workgroups. As outlined in our last update, dated December 10, 2020, we have been assigned both an NMB Case No. R-7557 and NMB Investigator Josie G.M. Bautista. AMFA’s legal counsel has been in contact with the NMB and Investigator Bautista regarding the status of the investigation. Due to the January election, impeachment hearing, and numerous closings-threats within Washington, DC, the NMB offices were in quarantine for 2 weeks, resulting in the Investigator having minimal access to the NMB offices.

AMFA Statement: TWU/IAM Scare Tactics and Lobbying |
|
October 22, 2020 -- In an effort to scare its membership into remaining members of a poorly run union, the TWU/IAM Association is trying to play up their clout in Washington D.C. while de-emphasizing AMFA’s contributions and their importance to the aircraft mechanic and related maintenance workers’ class and craft. There is no doubt that the IAM and TWU parent organizations spend considerable resources maintaining offices in and around Washington, D.C. They often lobby on behalf of their membership, but how much of that lobbying and money spent is actually for the aircraft mechanic and related?

AMFA Response to the TWU’s Raiding Accusations |
|
October 19, 2020 -- As many are aware, the members of unions representing the American Airlines Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) are conducting a card drive in an effort to displace the dysfunctional alliance between TWU and IAM with AMFA — a singular craft-specific union that specializes in the representation of mechanic and related personnel. This movement within the union’s membership is a result of ineffective representation by the incumbents. Their grievances with the incumbent dual union compromise are many.
