Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association Thanks Senate Leaders for their Work to Pass the FAA Reauthorization Act

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – February 12, 2024 – Today, the Aircraft Maintenance Fraternal Association (AMFA), a craft-specific, independent aviation union representing aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs), sent a letter to Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Chair Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Ranking Member Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Aviation Subcommittee Chair Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Jerry Moran (R-KS) thanking them for their work on passing the FAA Reauthorization Act.

The Senate Commerce Committee passed the FAA Reauthorization Act on February 8. The bipartisan measure includes several AMFA priorities, including requiring foreign repair stations that repair U.S. aircraft to adhere to the same safety standards as U.S. repair stations, doubles the FAA’s grant program for AMT workforce development from $5 million to $10 million per year over five years, provides a pathway for military service members who work on aircraft to transition into civilian AMT careers, and preserves whistleblower protections for AMTs to report safety concerns without fear of retaliation from their employers.

“AMFA is grateful to Chair Cantwell, Ranking Member Cruz, Chair Duckworth, and Ranking Member Moran for their hard work on this bipartisan bill,” said AMFA National President Bret Oestreich. "The FAA Reauthorization Act will keep the American flying public safe, protect American jobs, and improve efficiency across the country. We look forward to following the bill’s progress as it advances toward the president’s desk."
