TO ALL FAA CERTIFIED AVIATION TECHNICIANS Employed by US Part 121 Certified Air Carriers The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) was recently asked to provide information on certain critical safety issues to a member of the United States Senate Sub-Committee on Aviation. One of the Senators on the committee is currently investigating aircraft maintenance documentation and requested the input of our technicians, the professional group most familiar with the issue. AMFA National Safety and Standards shared with him the results of a recent survey it conducted in which over 3,000 certified aviation technicians from 15 airlines responded with their concerns regarding safety related maintenance issues within the U.S. air carrier fleet. As a result of our report the Senator is requesting specific, documented information on management intimidating technicians to sign for incomplete or improper work that may have led to falsification of aircraft maintenance records. In addition, he is requesting documentation of maintenance discrepancies found by licensed aircraft maintenance technicians on aircraft immediately after they have been released from third-party maintenance providers (subcontractors) that fall under FAR Part 145. The Senator is especially interested in incidents that have occurred since the September 11th attacks. If you have documented information that meets this criteria, AMFA National Safety and Standards is requesting that you submit it to our National Office where it will be compiled and forwarded to the Senator. He has guaranteed the anonymity of the individuals who submit documentation unless they specifically request to be considered to testify before the Committee. AMFA Safety and Standards will treat all information provided in the strictest confidence. If you have information to submit please send it to: AMFA Administration Please include your contact information and indicate whether you want to remain totally anonymous, are willing to provide confidential interviews, or if you would be interested in providing public testimony before Congress. Please forward the documentation so that it arrives at AMFA no later than Wednesday, October 16th, 2002. If you have any questions, please contact Frank Boksanske at (603) 642-3914 or Safety-StandDir@AMFANATL.org. Sincerely, s/O.V. Delle-Femine F.M. Boksanske, National Safety and Standards Director |
