Mesaba Negotiations Update- September 29-30, 2004

Negotiations reconvened at 9:00am September 29, 2004, at the Courtyard Marriot, changed from the Embassy Suites, the original site. In attendance for Mesaba were Cynthia Surrisi and Roger Hrdina. The Mesaba team consisted of Ken Wagers, Neil Hesselgrave, Jim Schafer, Wade Slagle, and Neil White. The AMFA team had met the prior day, Sept. 28, 2004 to finalize the presentation of Art 6.

The negotiating session started at 9am, at which time we offered our Art 6 proposal for their consideration and explained the changes we had made in our proposal. The Company retired to the break-out room and returned at 12:14 and presented us their Art. 6. The Company then presented an Art 8 at 12:59. Upon return from lunch the AMFA team reviewed the Company’s proposals, and began drafting counter proposals. We reviewed their Article 8 proposal and determined the Company had made no meaningful changes from their previous position. At 1800, the evening of the 29th, we presented a counter proposal for Art 6. After a clarifying discussion on our Article 6 counter proposal, we presented an Art 9 counter proposal and explanation of its contents at 18:11. The AMFA Negotiating team completed their day at 18:30

On September 30, 2004, we reported to the Courtyard by Marriott at 0930. The Federal Mediator and Company negotiating team was meeting with Mr. Spanjers and Mr. Bussell that morning and was not available for discussions until 11:30. At that time the Company presented an Art. 9 counter proposal and discussions were completed. Upon returning from lunch we met with Federal Mediator Fred Leif and discussed areas of the articles which concerned our members. These discussions were completed, and we caucused as a group.

After numerous requests from your AMFA Negotiating Committee to conduct the next negotiating session in DTW or MEM, the Federal Mediator complied with the Company’s wishes to only conduct negotiations in MSP. The next session will be held on Oct. 12th -14th at 2950 Metro Parkway, Rm.106, Bloomington MN. Another session is tentatively scheduled for the second week of November and we were informed this will also take place in MSP so as not to inconvenience the Company.

Your Negotiating Committee would like to thank the MSP members who took time to attend this week’s session.
