AMFA/Mesaba Negotiation Update- 04/08/04

On April 5th thru April 8th the AMFA negotiating committee met with the Mesaba representatives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Articles discussed during that period were Articles 14, 18 and 21.

Article 18-Aircraft Maintenance Training. Main discussion points were On the Job training use and Run/Taxi authorization requirement. We did not want the Company to use only On the Job training as their sole use for training and substituting it for class room training. Run/Taxi Authorization concerns were the Company’s requirement that all maintenance personnel will be authorized and that if they do not obtain their authorization they could possibly be terminated. This Article has been tabled.

Article 21-General & Miscellaneous. Main discussion points were Employee files, initial uniform issue, uniform allowance & FDR/CVR evidence. The Company wants to retain all negative employee file information and we want all information of a critical and negative nature removed after a defined period of time. We have agreed that initial uniform allowance will not include hats and gloves. Currently the Company has offered to raise the annual uniform allowance to $270 on date of signing and $300 after 3 years. A major point of disagreement is the use of FDR & CVR data for discipline. The Company wants the ability to use the data in order to discipline you but has offered not to use it in arbitration. We do not want to give the Company the ability to use this data for discipline or evidence in arbitration; in short we do not want them using it at all. This Article has been tabled.

Article 14-Overtime. We have given the Company our first proposal since the openers. Main points were the proposed elimination of the overtime board, elimination of Mandatory overtime, rules for the equal distribution of overtime and the employees right to refuse overtime.

The next round of negotiations will take place in DTW on April 12th through the 14th. We would also would like to take this opportunity to thank the membership for their attendance and participation in the MSP negotiations.
